One Stormy Night

Gina Roitman

Wind swells the trees
rain scratches at the night
sullen as an unhappy woman
irritated at being ignored
until
lightning
unzips
the
air

impatient to get naked
sparks fly

Zeus snaps his fingers
and the deluge begins.

You can hear the sighs as she pounds the ground,
reaching for satisfaction.

A Montreal writer and poet, Gina Roitman is author of Tell Me a Story, Tell Me the Truth, a book of nine linked short stories released in Fall 2008. Her work has aired on CBC Radio, appeared in the Gazette, Ukula Magazine, Quills Poetry Magazine and carte blanche, where she was the first prize winner in the inaugural issue.
